What is the post-treatment care?
After receiving an AlumiermMD chemical skin peel, post-treatment care is crucial to ensure optimal results and minimise potential complications. Here is an outline of the recommended post-peel care, however thorough guidance is provided as well as your personalised post care plan to take home with you:
1. Avoid Direct Sun Exposure: The newly exposed skin will be particularly sensitive to the sun. Protect it by avoiding direct sunlight for several days post-peel. When you do go out, wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 30, even on cloudy days. We will provide you with this following your treatment.
2. Moisturise: Your skin might feel dry or tight after the peel. We will provide you with a Recovery Balm for use at home following your treatment.
3. Gentle Cleansing: Wash your face with cool water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser. Avoid scrubbing or using exfoliating products for a few days to a week. We will provide you with a SensiCalm Cleanser for use at home following your treatment.
4. Avoid Picking: As the skin begins to peel, resist the urge to pick or peel off any flaking skin. This can lead to scarring or further irritation. Some may not experience visible peeling at all.
5. Limit Use of Makeup: It’s best to avoid or limit makeup for the first 48 hours post-peel to prevent potential irritation or clogging of the pores.
6. Avoid Strenuous Activities: Activities that cause excessive sweating can lead to irritation. It’s recommended to refrain from vigorous exercises for about 3-4 days.
7. Stay Hydrated: Drinking plenty of water can help to hydrate the skin from the inside out.
8. Avoid Extreme Temperatures: This includes saunas, hot showers, or very cold environments which can be too harsh for freshly peeled skin.
9. Check for Products with Active Ingredients: It’s recommended to avoid using skincare products with ingredients such as retinol, glycolic acid, or benzoyl peroxide immediately post-peel unless advised by your skincare professional.
